In the late 1930’s, the Red Imported Fire Ant, Solenopsis Invicta Buren arrived in the United States from South America. Today these rapidly multiplying stinging pests have infested over 300 million acres in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. One queen can lay 200 to 2,000 eggs a day. Fire ants are notorious for their aggressiveness and burning stings.
